Today is #GlobalStrikeForClimate day. Many school children have left the classroom to be part of this movement and to try to ensure there will be a habitable planet for them and future generations.
We take sustainability and environmental issues very seriously and as such we are working hard to make Monzie Estate as green as possible. Our own hydro scheme powers all the properties on the estate with green energy, and excess is sold back to the national grid.
We are working with Green Tourism to achieve our badge, and we are always looking for alternative ways of doing things, and to encourage others to take the issues our planet faces seriously.ity of the furniture in Mill House and the cottages has been up-cycled and not only does this save extra waste going to landfill, it makes each property unique and quirky. We also provide home baked brownies to all of our guests and put fresh flowers picked on the estate in to welcome new arrivals. Of course, during the winter months this can be challenging and we have to get creative!
All the properties on the estate are supplied with fresh and delicious spring water which is filtered and tested regularly and is far better than anything you can buy in a bottle! So when you come to stay remember to bring you own reusable bottle to fill up.
We stock the cottages with toiletries from The Scottish Fine Soap Company who manufacture their products near the Ochil Hills in Stirlingshire. The products are free from micro-beads and parabens and are not tested on animals, and the packaging is recyclable. They are also lovely to use!
We use green, eco-friendly cleaning and laundry products such as Bio-D and Eco Leaf as well as compostable dish cloths for our guests to use, an also encourage composting to our guests. We buy as much as we can from local producers and suppliers and make jams and compotes for the B&B from fruit grown right here on the estate. We supply warm blankets for cooler evenings and slippers although we do encourage our guests to bring their own slippers or flip-flops, and also to bring warm jumpers!
Monzie Estate is home to a wealth of walks and wildlife, and so to shrink your carbon footprint even more, you don’t need to get in the car and drive to see amazing sights! A walk up Kip MacLyne will give you stunning views and the estate is home to red squirrels, so many birds including red kites and buzzards and red deer amongst many other species.
