2015, the Year of Food & Drink.

By Monzie Estate | Blog

Perthshire has a plentiful amount of local produce to offer, particularly as we celebrate this year as the Year of Food & Drink.  So whether you’re hungry for breakfast, lunch, dinner or all you can enjoy a menu of delicious food topped off with refreshing drinks at delightful places close to our holiday cottage.

VisitScotland reports that  ‘eating traditional dishes and local produce’ is the second top activity for holidaymakers, so we’ve put together our top recommendations for places to eat in and around Crieff where you will be guaranteed sumptious food and drink.

You can be guaranteed and exceptional Afternoon Tea at Wilde Tyme, Glentrurret Distillery.  Their menu is full of local produce and served in perfect surroundings.  They have just extended their opening hours too, which now includes evening restaurant dining.  The Famous Grouse Experience, at Glenturret distillery is a 5* visitor attraction and is one of the top three whisky visitor attractions in the world! While you’re there, take a tour and experience Scotland’s oldest working distillery.

With something on the menu for everyone and a carefully selected choice of fine wines, The Deils Cauldron in Comrie will not disappoint.  It’s cosy and intimate with a real personal touch.  Aswell as the varied specials they serve an impressive traditional Sunday lunch.

Delivino has a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere with welcoming staff.  It’s ideal for a lovely lunch, coffee and cake or a 3 course evening meal. If you’d rather relax in the cottage in the evenings and don’t fancy cooking,  Delivino also provide delicious dishes for you to take away.   What about a large deli platter full of fabulous food positioned in the middle of the dining table where you can all help yourselves?  They’re so friendly and helpful, they’ll be delighted to share their ideas with you.

Their choice of wines is diverse with something for all budgets.  Look at their selection..

Set in a large victorian house with welcoming and friendly owners, Yann’s is definitely worth a visit.  Arrive early to sit in the lounge and mull over the menu with a G&T.

If you’d like a night in the cottage but don’t fancy cooking, you can pick up some delightful ready-made meals from Hansen’s Kitchen in Comrie.  They have a huge selection of varied meals.  The shop itself is a little gem, full of treats for foodie lovers and it has a superb selection of local beers cider.  Finding it difficult to choose? Iain is a mine of information when it comes to beer! He will recommend a few bottles to compliment your meals, or you can pick up a beer box which he has put together from a selection of bottles from carefully chosen local breweries.

Golfing with Glowry and friends..

By Monzie Estate | Blog

Perthshire is home to some of the oldest golf courses, which makes our cottage an ideal base for a golfing holiday.  Come and take pleasure in a few rounds of relaxed, leisurely golf whilst soaking up the magnificent surroundings.

Purchase a golfing pass which provides fantastic value for money and entitles you to play on various 9 hole golf courses in and around Perthshire.  Be sure to try out some of the Perthshire’s lesser-known gems such as St Fillans golf course on Loch Earn, Comrie, Muthill and Foulford.  These courses are fantastic choices for enjoying the breathtaking scenery in rural Perthshire, and for those seeking a gentle round of golf over nine holes.

If you want to be out on the green for a bit longer, Crieff Golf Club Ferntower course is 5 mins drive from the cottage and is an 18 hole course.  The club house serves delicious bacon rolls and a nice cup of coffee for afterwards!

Book our cottage and get golf ready..
